You can do all the things to build healthy new habits, prioritize a goal, start small, build a plan... BUT when you add this step, you'll finally create real behavior and habit change that will stick.
Here's the Secret Sauce...
To insure success in your desired lifestyle change you MUST:
Become aware of your thoughts.
Ask, is this thought fueling behaviors that support me in my desired change?
Believe that your thoughts are optional.
I know it seems that those pesky doubtful thoughts just pop in your head and that does happen. BUT what do you do with those unhelpful thoughts from there?
The trick is to recognize them and gently re-frame them. Here are some examples of common thoughts that perpetuate old patterns that aren't serving us.
~"I just NEED some chocolate"
Reframe-"Chocolate is good but what I really NEED is a walk."
~"I don't have time because I'm needed somewhere else."
Reframe-"My planned walk is my promise to myself."
~"I've never been good at following through."
Reframe-"The past doesn't dictate the future."
Remember:
~Thoughts create your Feelings
~Feelings fuel your actions
~Actions create your outcomes
Therefore, the thoughts we choose to focus on serve as the fuel for what we create in our lives.
