The Real Meaning of Success: How to Achieve This Big Triumph? - Rafia Fasih

Success! Have you ever wondered what the real definition of success is? The word itself carries

an aura of triumph, achievement, and fulfillment. But what does it truly mean? Is success a

tangible, universal reality, or is it merely a perception shaped by societal norms and

expectations?

I believe everyone has their own definition of success. It comes in various forms, shapes, and

sizes. Success in personal life differs from that in professional life. Unfortunately, when we hear

the word “SUCCESS” we often think only of tangible achievements or society’s narrow

definition of success. The truth is, success is a multifaceted concept, deeply personal and

continually evolving, influenced by our experiences, aspirations, and the people around us.

Success is not one-size-fits-all. For some, it may mean achieving career milestones; for others, it

could be about cultivating meaningful relationships or personal growth. Finding your own

definition of success is the first step towards achieving it. Reflect on what truly matters to you,

what brings you joy and fulfillment.

Another word often associated with success is failure. The fear of failure can make success

seem daunting or even unattainable. To normalize the possibility of success, we must accept

that failure is a part of the journey, not its opposite. Thomas Edison, the prolific inventor,

famously said, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work”. Every mistake is

a step on the ladder to success. Each failed attempt teaches valuable lessons for the next

endeavor. It’s essential to distinguish between failure as a noun and failure as a verb. As a verb,

failure involves taking action, which is crucial for any success. However, viewing failure as a

noun leads to seeing oneself as a failure, which happens only if you give up. So, keep moving

forward and stay in action mode.

Let’s be honest: success won’t come just like that. It requires a lot of determination and

consistency. Talking about success and failure is easy, but taking consistent action is the key. As

I mentioned earlier, the people around you play a significant role in your success. Success is not

a one-man show; it requires a whole cast. When sharing your success story, every mistake,

person, and experience plays a crucial role in the story. That’s why it’s vital to find the right

people and environment from the beginning, even before you start thinking about success.

When you are surrounded by people who have goals and are dedicated to their growth, it

influences you in a positive way and motivates you towards your growth. You’ve probably

heard the saying, “You become the product of your environment”. The environment shapes

your beliefs, aspirations, and goals in life. That’s why choosing the right environment is

extremely important. However, sometimes we can’t choose our environment. We may find

ourselves surrounded by people lacking goals, motivation, or aspirations. If they aren’t sincere

with themselves, how can they positively influence us? This is where mentors, guides, and

coaches come in. Having the right mentor or coach can change your life. As I tell my clients, a

good coach can change a game, but a great coach can change a life. Whether it’s a sports coach, fitness coach, life coach, or career coach, their success depends on the success of their mentee.

When their mentee succeeds, it brings them fulfillment and a sense of achievement. This is why

the coaching profession is so rewarding: coaches work and root for someone else’s success.

So, my friend, seek out that mentor, guide, or coach who truly resonates with your vision of

success. Imagine having someone in your corner who not only understands your goals but is as

committed to your dreams as you are. Picture the transformation as you identify your

strengths, tackle areas for improvement, and craft your plan of action. This partnership isn’t

just about accountability; it’s about forging a path to your ultimate triumph. Embrace this

journey with the right guidance, turn your aspirations into realities, and let your mentor help

you make this journey an unforgettable success story.
